FAQ

How the screening is done?

For security screening high performance technical equipment is used (X-ray machines, metal detectors fixed and portable metal detectors, explosives detectors). Where warranted, the control can be carried out manually.

What am I not allowed to carry in the cabin?

The cabin is the place where the plane passengers are seated.

Depending on the size of baggage, the airline can allow access to the cabin baggage. Contact the airline for details.

It is forbidden to carry in the cabin the following goods:

  • Fire arms, traditional or artisanal, whole or more pieces, functional or not, as well as parts thereof;
  • handicraft detonating devices, pyrotechnics, explosive devices (for military use) and parts thereof;

What happens to the objects about which we learned from airport that I am allowed to carry in the cabin?

The formalities of registration (check-in) consist in the presentation at the counter of an airline to be admitted as a passenger on a particular flight.

It is where you register and you entrust your luggage to be checked and then transported to the aircraft hold.

If you have found out at the airport that some objects from your baggage like knife, nail clippers, scissors are not allowed in the cabin, you can transfer them in checked baggage.

If the goods do not endanger the safety of aircraft, they can be registered as hold baggage.

Also, if after the security screening I have to abandon an object, it will be returned to me?

If, for various reasons, prohibited items to be carried in the cabin, were not registered as hold baggage nor have they been handed over to the airline, then the goods will be abandoned in special boxes and destroyed mechanically.

New rules on security in EU Airports

To protect against new threats of liquid explosives, the European Union (EU) adopted a series of rules that restrict the amount of liquids that you can pass through security checkpoints. These rules apply to all passengers departing from airports in the EU whatever their destination.

This means that at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage will be checked for liquids, in addition to other prohibited items. However, the new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy in stores beyond the security control or on board of an aircraft operated by an EU airline.

The new rules apply from Monday, November 6, 2006, on all EU airports and in Norway, Iceland and Switzerland, and are valid until further notice.

What is new?

You are only allowed to take small quantities of liquids in your hand luggage. These liquids must be in individual containers of not more than 100 millilitres each. These containers have to be put in a transparent plastic packing, enclosed, but not more than one litter per passenger. (See the photo below).

At the airport

In order to assist security control operator you need:

  • to present at the checkpoint, in order to be examined, all liquids you carry
  • take off jacket or coat as they will be screened separately
  • remove computers, laptops and other electrical equipment in your hand luggage. They will be screened separately.

Passengers in transit through Budapest or another EU airport it will be allowed to bring liquids purchased in Duty Free shops at airports outside the EU on board aircraft if they meet the requirements of EU rules. Thus, they can be taken on board only in sealed packages with receipt or invoice documents. Please consider this rule when buying!

Liquids include:

  • water and other drinks, soups, syrups
  • perfume gels, including hair and bath
  • pastes, including toothpaste
  • mascara

What does not change?

You still can:

  • pack liquids in the hold baggage – the new rules only apply to hand luggage;
  • take in your hand luggage medicines and diet substances, including baby food, for use during you flight. The recipe will be required;
  • buy liquids such as drinks and perfumes in a store on an EU airport bought before boarding or on board an aircraft operated by an EU airline.

If they are sold in special packaging, sealed, do not open before you go through screening – otherwise, their contents may be confiscated. (If you are transferred to an EU airport, do not open the package before screening at your airport of transfer, or at you final destination, if transited more than once).

All these liquids are additional to the amount of plastic packaging material, which may be resealed, mentioned above.

If you have any doubt, please ask the company or agency before the flight.

Also, please cooperate with company staff and with the security staff of the airport.
